The purpose of the expedition
You will be part of the team and hands on during our expeditions, sourcing and extracting ingredients of Tamanu, Nangai, Vanilla bean, Sandalwood heartwood, Coconut and Frangipani. The Indigenous project is on Pele Island, a remote off-grid island without electricity, a small island with pink-white sand beaches and turquoise water in a jungle environment.
The immediate threat on a small Pacific island is climate change. For the women, this includes the need to become self-sufficient and sustainable with local resources that they survive on. Women make mats from pandanus palm, collect Tamanu nuts and Nangai nuts for income that I source from which are key ingredients to the products I develop.
With more cyclones and natural disasters every year, the planting and care of these tree species would make a valuable contribution to the future of the indigenous community.
Our project is setting up nurseries to plant and increase the number of species and a replanting program will give the biggest impact throughout the remote Pacific islands. Starting with Pele Island. Which also includes the wellbeing of the local women.
A rewarding experience
”‘Our small group expeditions are always done with a clear purpose in mind, but they are also great fun and incredibly rewarding. You leave your world far behind and are completely immersed in the local culture. Joining a small but cheerful team of like-minded souls is a once-in-a-lifetime chance to see another culture first-hand. Our expeditions change the lives of those who come with us in a fundamental way, I am always told’

Ready for an adventure?
If you have a good basic fitness level and a desire for adventure with purpose, this could be your perfect trip. Indeed, these expeditions will take you out of your comfort zone, but they are not an extreme challenge: We sleep in beach island homes, live the life of indigenous people and we live with the community in remote islands when on expedition.
On the remote island of Pele we will experience living off the sea and land for our food.
Please note: These expeditions will be filmed for part of a documentary series.
