Time for tea. Pop the kettle on!

On returning home from a successful Expedition from Khumbu region in Nepal and it’s humanitarian focus on Pangboche Basic school which is situated at the top on the village ASL 4000m at the base of Ama Dablem mountain.

Sustainable village life

On reflection I was impressed how Pangboche village was so self sufficient and all the local indiginous people are utilising all natural energy. The Milk river (also known as Dudhtikoshi) flows through the village onwards to Tibet. Due to the high altitude no fish can survive at this location.

The village runs off both Hydro and Solar Power to become self sufficient plus every person has a filed to grow potatoes and green houses with water supply from the river to be able to grow fresh veggies all year round. Other source of fuel is Yak dung which is used to fuel fires for heating and cooking. (a distinctive aroma I am still not use too).

Our focus for this Humanitarian Expedition was to provide sponsor and support the Rai children at Pangboche Basic school. The foundation for all Humanitarian projects is making sure all the basic needs are met which include food, clean fresh water supply, shelter, clothes, education. only after these basic needs are met can we then build the projects for ingredient sustainability.

Life in the remote high altitude villages is extremely hard, long hours worked in the fields growing and harvesting potatoes. Sad but true only 50% of children are able to attend school or have leave to help the family as young as 7yrs old and follower their fathers footsteps and become Porters carrying heavy loads.

Every person I met had a smile from ear to ear, even living in extreme poverty. I love their initiative that can do altitude, being able to turn and use all the natural resources around them to lead a self sufficient way of life.

We can learn so much from others….
