You will be part of the team and hands on during our expeditions, sourcing and extracting ingredients of Tamanu, Nangai, Vanilla bean, Sandalwood heartwood, Coconut and Frangipani. The Indigenous project is on Pele Island, a remote off-grid island without electricity, a small island with pink-white sand beaches and turquoise water in a jungle environment.
The immediate threat on a small Pacific island is climate change. For the women, this includes the need to become self-sufficient and sustainable with local resources that they survive on. Women make mats from pandanus palm, collect Tamanu nuts and Nangai nuts for income that I source from which are key ingredients to the products I develop.
With more cyclones and natural disasters every year, the planting and care of these tree species would make a valuable contribution to the future of the indigenous community.
Our project is setting up nurseries to plant and increase the number of species and a replanting program will give the biggest impact throughout the remote Pacific islands. Starting with Pele Island. Which also includes the wellbeing of the local women.
